Seminar 2: Dr. Daisy Cocco DeFilippus, President of Naugatuck Valley Community College

Since Daisy Cocco De Fillipis has taken on the role of President at Naugatuck Valley Community College, the school has increased its enrollment by 500 students and has added two new classroom buildings to provide students with better resources, hands-on classroom experiences, and expanded programming. As a community college it is key to stay in the forefront of potential students’ college choices and to be able to provide a great college experience. Hear from Daisy on the challenges she and her team have overcome and the triumphs they have faced. Discover the important differences in management between a community college and a private or public university.

Leaders On Board: Orienation

Leaders on Board, a program of Leadership Greater Hartford, matches people like you (leaders who care about this community and are willing to share their skills and perspectives to serve organizations they believe in) with non-profits looking for talented, resourceful,passionate people to serve on their Boards of Directors.

The two pieces of this experience are an Orientation Workshop (1/22/17) and an Express Match (1/29/17). You must attend the Orientation in order to be eligible for Express Match.

What is Orientation? This workshop provides an overview of board governance and member roles and responsibilities. The session is designed for those who are new to board service but also for those who can benefit from a refresher session. The workshop will cover fiduciary leadership, and legal and financial responsibilities. This will also be a great opportunity to talk with others about serving on a board of directors and to hear from a lawyer whose expertise is nonprofit governanc
